» Deity: Sif
» Reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sif, http://www.thorshof.org/sif.html, http://www.valkyrietower.com/sif.html
» Divine Family: {mother & father} Never mentioned/unknown; {spouse} Thor, previously married to Aurvandil; {siblings} none known; {children} Ull, Thrud, Loridi, Magni, Modi
» Mythology: Not much is known of Sif, strangely. She was originally the second wife of Aurvandil, and the mother of Ull by him. Later on, Sif became the bride of the thunder god, Thor (exactly how she went from Aurvandil to Thor is never elaborated upon), and her son Ull was adopted into the ranks of the Aesir.
Sif was an exquisitely lovely goddess, second only to Freyja. In fact, when Hrungnir was drunkenly boasting that he would kill all the gods of Asgard, he named both Sif and Freyja as the two he would spare, so that he might take them home.
Sif's most striking feature was her beautiful blonde hair. One night as she slept, however, Loki snuck into the bedchamber she shared with Thor and sheared off the golden tresses. Upon waking to find her hair gone, Sif was completely distraught. Thor threatened to take Loki’s head for this act, but Loki was able to weasel out of it by promising to find a replacement for her hair--one even better than what Sif had originally had, which was enough to pique Sif's interest in sparing his life. Loki then went to the dwarves, the Sons of Ivaldi, and came back with not only a wig of spun gold that then grew as Sif’s own hair the moment she put it on, but several other gifts as well, including the spear Gungnir and the multiplying ring Draupnir for Odin, the ship Skíðblaðnir and the boar Gullinbursti for Freyr, and the mighty hammer Mjöllnir for Thor.
Although Sif seems to have been associated with family, marriage and fertility, she was possibly of questionable fidelity. In the Poetic Edda poem Hárbarðsljóð, Thor met a disguised Odin who informed him that Sif had a lover at home while Thor was away. Thor dismissed the accusation, claiming the other man was speaking carelessly "of what seems worst to me" and also lying. In the poem Lokasenna, Loki was hurling numerous insults at the other gods. Sif, meanwhile, served Loki a glass of mead and insisted that she alone was blameless and that Loki could not find fault with her. Loki, however, claimed that she had been unfaithful to Thor, and that he himself was her paramour. Sif had nothing to say in response.

» Current Name: Amber Wheatley
» Birthdate: 05/07/1977
» Height: 5'9"
» Distinguishing Marks: Single-pierced earlobes, fabulous blonde hair
» Family: {mother & father} George and Sonja Wheatley, grandmother Ingrid Bakker; {marital status/spouse} single/NA; {siblings} none; {children} none; {pets} none
» Occupation: High-end pastry chef with her own bakery.
» Currently Residing In: Chicago, IL
» Ability: Originally a fertility/grain goddess, Sif-reborn mysteriously never seems to ever completely run out of food stocks. Even if her pantry is nearly empty, she always manages to find enough to make whatever dish she’s preparing. She still has to purchase groceries periodically, yes, but she’s never caught too short-supplied to finish a recipe. Although not especially wealthy, money often comes easily to Sif and she rarely worries about her financial health. She has also been associated with the gift of prophecy, so her female intuition is often second-to-none.
» History: Sif has had no prior mortal reincarnations.
On May 7, 1977, she was reborn as Amber Wheatley in Ames, Iowa as an only child. She grew up a fairly typical, corn-fed Midwestern girl, participating in 4-H and winning top ribbons for her baked goods at the county and state fairs. As a teenager, she often babysat for the neighborhood children. Her mother was of Norwegian descent, and young Amber grew up listening to her grandmother telling the stories of the old country, of the giants and the gods. Amber loved hearing them, as they always seemed so familiar. Over time, she realized their familiarity was because she had once borne witness to them. Amber never dared tell anyone her secret, though she did feel a certain pride in being a reborn Aesir.
Although she was pretty enough that she could have gone into modeling or been a pageant winner, Amber discovered she had a flair for cooking from an early age, especially baked goods, like cookies, breads, pies and cakes. She excelled in home economics while in high school, and attended cooking school in Chicago after that. She worked in a bakery during that time, and, after several years of saving and winning numerous baking competitions along the way, Amber opened up a bakery of her own, offering a variety of goodies from the traditional to the trend-setting. Her wedding cakes, especially, are popular. Business is good, and she’s managed to be on TV a few times for cooking competitions, but Amber also hopes to one day have her own cooking show.
» Personality: At first glance, Amber seems like an all-American girl-next-door type. She has a ready smile, a down-to-earth nature, and enjoys things like gardening, cooking and watching football. She seems entirely content to be a domestic goddess, so to speak, and looks forward to someday getting married and raising a family if she can find a suitable husband. However, she’s never really had a serious relationship. She figures that if she ever finds “The One,” she’ll just automatically know it’s the right person and the relationship will magically work out on its own.
Her semi-rural Midwestern upbringing has instilled her with a sense of family values, hard work, practicality and resourcefulness. Although she has a creative side, Amber is often methodical in seeing her ideas through to becoming reality. She has learned how to take pleasure in simple things, and her sense of adventure tends to lend itself to inventing new taste combinations or a relaxing weekend in the great outdoors. Generally, she takes things in stride, and usually tries to make the best of any given situation.
She is possessed of a great, though quiet, inner strength. However, this sometimes comes out as being stubborn or bullheaded—if she wants something, she insists on having it one way or another. After all, once she had to be able to hold her ground with Thor, who was not known for his willingness to compromise, as well as be able to soothe his temper when it got out of control. She can be quite the opportunist when she chooses. Her temper is usually slow (but thoroughly unpleasant when set off), and she subscribes to the idea that “if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.” In fact, she is usually unfailingly polite and gracious--and rather smug about it. Even if someone annoys her, she prefers to go the route of “kill them with kindness” than more direct means of confrontation. Fighting is not her style, but she is good at finding other people to do it for her if she thinks someone needs a good smackdown--she wanted Loki’s head just as badly as Thor when he cut off her hair, after all, but she left the belligerence to her husband. You know the sort of person that just seems so perfect you inexplicably want to hate her? It’s not uncommon for people to feel that way about Amber. She can be holier-than-thou, manipulative, and she also has a streak of vanity which extends not only to her physical appearance, but also her seemingly irreproachable nature.
» Other Notes: Sif is straight, likely a 1 on the Kinsey scale, but under the right circumstances, she could be persuaded to be more open-minded on such things.
She knows English, French, German and a little of both Danish and Norwegian.
» Sample Journal: I was so pleased today that we were able to finish the cake for the Sweley-Jensen wedding. The rest of the staff kept trying to tell me that we weren’t going to have enough fondant to do the decorations, but, lo and behold, I was able to find some extra on one of the shelves in the back pantry, and we had just enough to make it perfect. Oh, the look on the bride’s face when she saw the finished cake was just priceless, like she was going to cry she was so happy. She thanked us so many times, but I just told her that’s my job to make a beautiful cake for a beautiful wedding. That’s always the best part of a good day’s work, don’t you think?
» Sample Log: Early summer was always a busy time for the bakery. Graduations and weddings just added on to the usual gamut of birthdays and holidays. Amber didn’t mind. The crunch meant lots of practice for her upcoming cupcake competition. She’d taken first prize last year, and she had every intention of doing so again. At the moment, though, part of her practice was making six dozen cupcakes for a bridal shower.
She had chosen a light, citrusy-flavored batter for the mix—nothing too dense or overpowering, since the bride and her guests would want to feel like they could still fit into their dresses come the big day, after all—and was using delicate sugared orange blossoms and lavender on top, along with bits of fondant to make them look like little bridal bouquets. Amber was just finished with putting on the last of the fondant decorations when the shower hostess came in to see how they were coming along.
“Perfect timing!” she chirped as the customer walked in, “I was just finishing your cupcakes up for you. What do you think?” Amber held up one of the cupcakes as a specimen for examination. The customer took it from her and looked at it.
“Oh my gosh! It is adorable! Absolutely perfect! You are a genius!” the woman gushed. Amber just smiled sweetly.
“Oh, why, thank you. I’m so glad you like them,” she said graciously, “After all, a bride-to-be should feel just as special at her shower as she will on her big day. Wouldn’t you agree?”
“Of course,” the customer agreed, “I hope that they taste as good as they look…”
“I promise you, they do,” Amber assured her.
“In that case, I’m sure they will be delicious,” the customer said, and she paid for the cupcakes after Amber got them all boxed up.
“Thank you again. It was an absolute pleasure,” Amber said with a smile. The customer collected the boxes of cupcakes and waved cheerfully as she left. Oh, yes. Amber was definitely going to be ready for that cupcake competition.
